Hands

The fact checker

An AI assistant that checks every number before it goes out

Checks the specific thing. Takes a claim, finds its source, and says whether the source supports it — quoting the part that does or does not, and naming the date.

What you'd say

Check every number in this before it goes out.

When it runs

When you ask. Brief it in a sentence, any time.

What it uses

the document and its sources

Where it stops and asks

It checks; it does not edit. Each claim comes back supported, unsupported or contradicted, with the source quoted and dated, and the fixing is yours.

How it goes

The running order.

Every step lands in the record with a time and a source, so you can read what it did instead of asking.

  1. Take each claim
  2. Find its source
  3. Say whether the source supports it, quoting
  4. Name the date of the source

Questions

The ones that come up first.

What counts as a source?

The document or page the claim came from, which it finds or you give it. A claim with no findable source is reported as unsupported, not as wrong.

Can it check numbers in a spreadsheet?

It checks the number against where the number came from. For arithmetic inside a sheet, the data cruncher shows its working.

Why a separate Hand?

Because a Hand checking its own work is less useful than a second one checking it. The newsletter and the content pipeline hand their drafts to this one before you see them.
